The Implications of Justification by Faith

7/26/2021

One of my passions as a pastor is to remind people of the great "so what's" in the Bible. Or the great "therefore's". I like to see what the implications of the truth we learn about because it's in the implications that we begin to see gospel transformation. Such is the case in our text this week. As we wrap up Romans 3 before our late summer break, let me challenge you to consider what the greatest implications are to the truth that we are justified by faith alone as a gift from God. This is what Paul begins to deal with in Romans 3:27-31 and I can't wait to explore that text with you.

The Simplicity of the Gospel

7/19/2021

As a football fan, the end of July is a most anticipated time on the calendar. It is this time of year that teams report for training camp. According to legend, it was every year at training camp that coach Vince Lombardi would look at his team, hold up the ball and say, "Gentlemen, this is a football." It was his belief that you need to always remember the basics. This week, we'll dive deeper into Romans 3 to see the simplicity of the Gospel and remember what the good news is all about. Can't wait to share what this text means.

The Righteousness of God

7/12/2021

This is a common illustration that is used to demonstrate our text this week. You find yourself standing guilty before the judge of a crime. There is no doubt that you have done it but you see that the judge is your own father! You are confident that he will let you go without paying your fine. But then, you would see that he is not a good judge. A good judge has to enforce the law on everyone. So, will your father be a good father or a good judge? It's impossible to be both. Or is it? This Sunday we'll continue our study in Romans to see how God can be both a just judge and a loving father. Spoiler alert - it is all about the Gospel.

All in the Same Boat

7/4/2021

This weekend we celebrate our nation's "Declaration of Independence". In that document, our nation's founding fathers wrote these words, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal ..." Yet, while our nation is founded on the principle that every human being is on equal footing, many of us act as though we are better than those around us. This is nothing new. Our text this week sees the Apostle Paul wrapping up his discourse on the equality of men before God and we see that whether we are Jew or Gentile, we are all in the same boat. How do we all stand before a Holy God? We'll talk about that this Sunday. See you then!
