We've spent the majority of our Sunday Mornings the past few years learning from Dr. Luke, the physician turned historian and writer, as he shared with us what he has learned about the life of a travelling teacher by the name of Jesus. This teacher, he tells us, taught with authority about the coming of God's Kingdom. As you might expect, there were those who were opposed to Jesus' message. In fact, they were so opposed, they wanted him dead.
They got their wish. On the Friday of Passover almost 2,000 years ago, they crucified Jesus for crimes against Rome. And, you wouldn't be alone if you thought that this was the end of the story. However, Jesus told us this would happen and he told us that he would rise again. And this truth, however unexpected, changes everything.
This Sunday we are at the climax of the story. Jesus is dead, the disciples are discouraged and hope appears lost. Until they make a very unexpected discovery that Jesus really, truly and forever is alive!
